It is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Its natural habitat is tree savanna particularly Acacia woodland, where grassland is interspersed with trees and thickets or scrub.
Builds a ball nest, placed in grass mixed with thorn bushes, usually a foot or less from the ground.
The three eggs are incubated by the female only.
